Currently In: Carbone
Over the weekend I tried Carbone, an Italian restaurant I was dying to try and I'm so glad I did! It was so incredibly delicious, and not only that but the ambiance was great and the space and the service, everything! It's in the center or Greenwich Village and although I went for dinner, it's a great lunch option too because you get to eat a filling meal giving you enough energy to go out around the Village shopping, or just strolling around.
We were a group of of seven and our waiter suggested that the plates are great to share so we ordered a bunch of different yummy stuff. First of all they brought this incredible focaccia bread with tomato sauce brushed on top which was fluffy, doughy heaven in one bite. We went on to order some appetizers and my favorites were the Caesar salad (can't forget those olive oil drenched croutons!) and the meatballs were to die for, seriously the best I have ever had! Those are a definite must!! I say that a lot don't I?
On to entrees, I shared two pastas with two of my best friends: the Spicy Rigatoni a la Vodka and the Angel Hair AOP. The rigatoni was delicious, and you can control the spiciness of it, but I could taste a lot of red bell pepper and it's not my favorite taste, but even so, I would order it again because it was so good. The Angel Hair AOP was angel hair pasta with some extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), red pepper and a bit of shallots, sounds super simple but it was so yummy and comforting.
For dessert they bring by your table a cart with a huge tiramisu, carrot cake, lemon cheese cake and a Black Forest cake and my mouth literally dropped open when I saw them! We ordered the first three I mentioned and once I tried them not only did my mouth drop open again but I started salivating too! By the way, the tiramisu was Nutella tiramisu!! They were to die for.
If you're ever in the area, Carbone is for sure one of my all time favorite restaurants, not just downtown but in all the neighborhoods, so you should definitely give it a try!
