Foodie Favorite: Sushi on Jones

Foodie Favorite: Sushi on Jones

For what feels like years now I've been dying to try Sushi on Jones in Bowery Market. Being that in my family we're all major foodies and love sushi, we've tried a lot of places, lots of different Omakase and I think I've made it very clear how obsessed I am with Japan. It was through the documentary "Jiro Dreams of Sushi" and in Japan that I was introduced to the original concept of Omakase: chef's pick, 12-18 pieces of just sushi, 30 minutes and you're out. I knew that in Japan this was fairly common, and while Omakase and fixed price menus are also very popular in the US, I was impressed to see a restaurant adapt Japan's concept of 30-minute Omakase.

I don't know why I took so long to try out Sushi on Jones, but I am so glad I finally did! I went by myself, so it was even quicker than 30 minutes, and it was just so much fun to sit at that tiny kiosk and watch the chefs prepare my sushi, back to back. The second I took my first bite I was immediately so impressed by how fresh, flavorful and high quality this simple piece of sushi from a kiosk was! Honestly, it was even better than Sugarfish which has been my go-to for simple Omakase. It's a little different but Sushi on Jones felt more yummy and fresh, the pieces melted in your mouth like butter.

It was 12 pieces total and you can add a hand roll or repeat a piece if you're still hungry. They don't accept gratuity, so including tax it was $65, which I know is not cheap but I wouldn't say it was over-priced at all, I promise it's definitely worth it if you want to treat yourself. You can also visit their indoor location on 210 W 10th St. or order online!
