Harbour Island Guide
Just a 45 minute airplane ride from the Miami airport, Harbour Island in the Bahamas is the perfect beach weekend getaway. It has strong Bahamian vibes, but it is extremely relaxing. Feels a little secluded but not too much that you feel isolated. It has great restaurants, amazing hotels, and beaches that make you never want to leave your lounge chair. My family has created the tradition of going on fourth of July weekend every Summer and I definitely look forward for the fun little retreat that it is. Check out below the hotels and restaurants that I love and fun things to do if you ever find yourself in this special little island.
I’ve stayed in two different hotels and each is uniquely special and great.
For longers stays, the Pink Sands is perfect. You can stay in really cool villas with awesome terraces and better yet, personal stairs that take you straight to pink sands beach.
The times that we’ve gone for shorter, weekend getaways, we have stayed at The Rock House. Located in the heart of Harbour Island, it’s a five minute walk from Valentine’s marina and an equally short golf cart ride to the beach. With various different rooms and suites and a delicious restaurant, The Rock House has everything you need for a short beach trip.
Sip Sip
This is definitely, hands down, my favorite lunch spot in all of the island. While the incredible chipotle & lobster quesadilla is enough to make us go every day, it’s not the only thing that makes it special. Located right above the beach, Sip Sip is constantly full! Besides the quesadilla, Sip Sip has delicious fresh fish, amazing appetizers and various burgers, super lively staff, a little boutique, and home made ice cream every day. Seriously, what more can you ask for?
The Dunmore
Located in what I believe is the oldest (and prettiest) hotel of the island, the Dunmore Hotel’s restaurant is another one of my favorites for lunch and/or dinner. I don’t think there’s a single thing in the menu (cocktails included) that’s not amazing!
Queen Conch
Queen Conch is a kiosk with a terrace along the harbor where you’ll have the most fresh and delicious conch salad ever. You can either take it to go or to stay along with some mahi mahi dip and grouper fingers, it’s the best quick Bahamian lunch. Don’t forget to order what goes best with it, a bottle of Kalik, the beer of the Bahamas.
Beach! Beach! Beach!
While of course the island has a beautiful town that you should definitely roam around and check out the shops, the second you step into that beach you’ll never want to leave. The vast expanse of pink sands and the clear blue water seriously makes it the most serene place ever, perfect to relax while you tan! And keep an eye out for the horses that often pass by.
