My Favorite MET Gala Looks
Fashion girls all over the world rejoiced last night in our favorite Monday of the year, MET Gala Monday. I was so incredibly excited for this year’s theme, “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.” Being an Art History student, I have learned so much about art and religion, how interlaced it is; being a fashion lover, I’ve loved to connect and study how fashion is so involved in these subjects as well. What I love about the MET Gala is, being that’s it’s part of the MET’s Costume Institute, it really gives attendees the chance to go all out, to really dress in costume and play with each year’s theme. It’s also really nice to see people who don’t necessarily go in costume, but still challenge themselves to dress in “ordinary” gowns while still going along with the theme. I’m always a little disappointed with people that don’t pay attention to the theme at all, considering it’s such as special and fun opportunity, but it’s great to see all the looks nonetheless. Below are all the looks I loved and some opinions on my absolute favorites.
Anna Wintour
In Chanel.
I feel like often Anna wears very similar dresses and doesn't always follow the theme, but this year her dress does feel like she drew inspiration from it!
Blake Lively
In Atelier Versace, Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, Christian Louboutin shoes with a Judith Leiber Couture bag.
Honestly in my eyes Blake can do no wrong! As always she looks like a total goddess and I love the transparency down her legs.
Kate Bosworth
In Oscar de la Renta and Tacori jewelry.
She was definitely one of my favorites and I felt she completely embodied to theme all the way down to the way she styles her hair.
Kim Kardashian
In custom Versace.
Ariana Grande
In Vera Wang.
Zendaya
Atelier Versace, Tiffany & Co. jewelry, and Jimmy Choo shoes.
Definitely one of my top, the fact that she dressed like Joan of Arc is beyond and she could not have looked more incredible.
Alexa Chung
Love that she opted for a short look! In her own design.
Virgil Abloh
Amanda Seyfried
In custom Prada and H. Stern jewelry.
Total angelical fairy!
Cardi B
In Moschino.
I'm amazed that not only is she very pregnant but it's her first time at the gala and she still managed to honor the theme.
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen
Gigi Hadid
In Atelier Versace, Lorraine Schwartz jewelry and Christian Louboutin shoes.
This dress reminded me of a church's stained glass windows.
Stella Maxwell
In Moschino and David Yurman.
Lana del Rey, Jared Leto and Alessandro Michele
In Gucci
Chadwick Boseman
In Versace and Christian Louboutin shoes.
Hands down my favorite men's look!
Priyanka Chopra
In Ralph Lauren.
Sarah Jessica Parker
In Dolce & Gabbana custom Alta Moda and Jennifer Fisher jewelry.
SJP is another one that in my eyes can do no wrong! I know it's extra and it may not be for everyone but I love that she is determined to always dress up and stick to the theme.
Sarah Lane
In Tory Burch and Tamara Mellon.
Tabitha Simmons
In Dolce and Gabbana.
I'm totally obsessed with the mix of of the pink tulle dress with the embroidered coat on top!
Takeoff, Quavo, and Offset of Migos
In Versace.
Sza
In Versace.
She looks so stunning! I'm obsessed with the fact that she added the tearsto really represent a Weeping Madonna.
Shaun White
In Etro.
Rihanna
In custom Maison Margiela by John Galliano, Christian Louboutin shoes, Maria Tash jewelry, Cartier jewelry, and a custom Judith Leiber Couture clutch.
You didn't think I was going to leave her out right? We all know she always goes to extra mile for the gala, but she still always manages to take me by surprise! I loved the there was more focus on the beautiful material and textures rather than making a huge, long dress.
Lily Collins
In Givenchy Haute Couture.
Definitely one of my favorites! Again, obsessed with the incorporation of the tear in her make up.
Jasmine Sanders
In H&M.
I'm amazed by the glow this material gives off!
Laura Love
In Versace.
Of course there were so many more looks I loved and stunning dresses but I needed to limit myself and tried to only pick those I really thought honored the theme. I can't wait to get back to NYC so I can see the actual exhibition and definitely write a post about it!
